As the leader of the elite PI firm, the Imposters, Lord Yates Fairfax has made an art of concealing his identity. But when his newest client, the beautiful Lady Alethia Barremore, is shot leaving their meeting, he throws caution to the wind and rushes to her aid. Though Lady Alethia thought she was only looking for her missing nanny, she has clearly stumbled into dangerous secrets. He takes her, unconscious, to the safety of his own home, knowing this case is about to get tricky.

Lady Lavinia Hemming suspects there’s more to her oldest friends than they’re willing to admit, and when she stumbles upon the truth that they’re the Imposters, she recruits herself into the firm. Happy as she is for the distraction of an investigation from the comfort of Northumberland, Lavinia’s own family secrets continue to haunt her. And the one thing to bring laughter back into her life—Yates’s ridiculous banter—lands her squarely on the bad side of her best friend, his sister.

Tormented by a past that she doesn’t dare to admit, Lady Alethia does what she can to help her handsome host, new friends, and the investigators. But as clues leads them deeper into the darkest of society’s secrets, Alethia, Yates, and Lavinia soon learn anew that the gentry isn’t always noble…and truth isn’t always honorable. Amidst burgeoning love and old betrayal, scandalous secrets will test the bounds of redemption in this exhilarating series finale.

I was so looking forward to this third book in the Imposters series and it did not disappoint! I adore Yates and was rooting for a happy ending for him and loved reading his story. This book was packed with everything from action and adventure to love, faith, and trust, making a story that kept the pages turning. Lavinia was a bright note and I loved how much her character contributed to the story and Imposters, Inc. Seeing her find her place and have confidence in herself was refreshing amidst a story of intrigue. All the characters from the previous two books in the series are present and the addition of Alethia to the mix was the perfect rounding out of friends in the group. Cameo appearances of characters from White’s Shadows Over England series just add to the delight and reading pleasure. While this book does involve some darker topics, they are handled with the elegance and good taste that the author’s writing exudes novel after novel. Overall, an excellent read and an outstanding series conclusion. Highly recommend! I was gifted a copy of this book and chose to share a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A fantastic finale to one of Roseanna’s best series. I loved that one of the characters from the first book got more to their story, and the mystery in this one is compelling. I also loved some familiar faces from some of Roseanna’s other books make an appearance in this book-that was so much fun! Rosanna is one of my must read authors in this series is a perfect indication as to why!
I received a copy of this book from the author and also pre-ordered my own Audible audiobook copy of the book as well. I was not required to post a positive review and all thoughts are my own.

The Imposters has been a fantastic series, and this final story is an amazing conclusion. New characters are introduced, previous characters return, and the special investigative team known as The Imposters has never been better! Lord Yates Fairfax is finally given a chance to shine in this riveting tale that sheds a strong light on good versus evil. A disturbing twist involving two young women mirrors the worst of mankind, but author Roseanna M. Wright never allows the plot to become sordid or unacceptable to her readers. Yes, danger and deception is present but there’s also the promise of hope, light, and redemption.

An Honorable Deception is set in England in 1910. and White’s descriptive powers have never been better! I loved seeing Yates and Lavinia together again, but will a new client of the Imposters be the one who captures his heart? White has woven romance, faith, and mystery together into a mesmerizing story that makes me sad to say goodbye to this series! This book can be read as a standalone, but I predict that once you read it, you will be eager to read the other books also! An Honorable Deception is a must-read for fans of historical Christian romance!

I received a complimentary copy from the author and publisher. There was no obligation for a positive review.

I have enjoyed this series about The Imposters so much and was so excited to get to Yates’ story! I also really liked both of the female main characters that made up a sort of love triangle in this one. Both of them were very likeable and had compelling back stories, and I found myself rooting for each one of them to find their voice and grow as a person regardless of who ended up with Yates. I also really enjoyed the mystery element of this story. I was very invested and cheering hard for them to be able to save Alethia’s former nanny. I was pleased by the ending and felt satisfied for all the characters involved, but I won’t give away any more that that.

I do want to add a caution that this book was much darker than this author’s other books and deals with much seedier subjects and characters than her usual fare, including human trafficking, sexual abuse, and pedophilia. This is the first book of Mrs. White’s that I have some hesitation about letting my daughters read, and I may have my youngest teen hold off on it for a few years. The book is not in any way inappropriate or in poor taste; it just deals with some horrible realities. I do recommend that moms pre-read this one, even if your children have already read others from this author.

I received a complimentary copy of this book as a member of the author’s launch team.

I just loved this book! Roseanna White always writes just the right combo of history, romance, and suspense for me! I’ve been waiting for Yates’ story this whole series, as I grew to love his character, and it certainly didn’t disappoint. I didn’t even mind the love triangle, even though I knew who I wanted him to end up with! Such a nice bonus that the other lady found her happily ever after too! It was fun reading the author’s note at the end, knowing that these characters gave her such a hard time in that aspect. A huge highlight was having old friends from a previous series show up! Not going to spoil it, but if you’ve read White’s books you can probably guess. One of my favorite parts of the story was the beautifully honest conversations. Both between Yates and Marigold, Yates and Lavinia, and even Lavinia and Alethia. This series has been so enjoyable and I’m sorry to see it end but I’m excited to see what White has for us next!

I received a complementary copy of this book from the author and publisher via NetGalley. I was not asked to leave a positive review. My opinions are completely my own.

I have been ever so anxiously awaiting the final novel of Roseanna M. White’s “The Imposters” series and it was so worth the wait!
I had such a book-hangover after finishing this one! Ms. White’s stories are always ones that linger in my heart and mind, fueling my imagination as I wait for my next opportunity to sit down (or stand in a corner) and read for a few minutes. And did this one ever captivate my thoughts! The subject matter – goodness, it is heavy. Heartbreakingly so. But I thought Ms. White did a marvelous job of balancing the weight of the investigation with some lighthearted moments and humor, keeping the story from becoming too dark. Penelope is always a great distraction!
My favorite part of any good book is always the characters and, as I have adored Yates from the very beginning of the first book, I was so happy to be reading his story at last! He is the teasing younger brother, the serious leader, the anonymous Mr. A, and in this one, so wonderfully honorable, especially in the midst of the deception of this investigation. I appreciated how the author contrasted the honor of The Imposters, with the lies and disgrace of the villains. He wasn’t so noble as to be unbelievable, but a perfect hero of the story.
Then there is Lady Lavinia who is struggling to reconcile her past and discern what her future might look like. I loved her friendship with Lady Alethia, as well as following her to a much different future than she had envisioned.
Oh, and if you’ve read some of Ms. White’s other series, there is a familiar character that I was super happy (and surprised) to see! I won’t spoil anything, but I definitely had to go reread their book, as soon as I had recovered from my book-hangover.
The worst part of this book? The fact that it and the series are over! The best part? I can reread the whole series whenever I want to whisk them back off of their shelf.
Overall, if you enjoy captivating characters, as well as historical mysteries full of suspense and romance, then I would highly recommend this book and the entire series!

My thanks to the author and publisher for my complimentary copy of this book! I was not required to write a positive review and have not been compensated for it in any way. All opinions expressed are my own.

I’ve been a fan of Roseanna M. White’s books for many years. She is a brilliant wordsmith with a special talent for creating compelling, engaging characters and imaginative scenarios. Her writing flows seamlessly and is enriched by colorful imagery and rich historical detail.

An Honorable Deception is the third book in her The Imposters series, which has been such a delightful, captivating series. I’ve been anxiously awaiting Yates’ story, and it definitely was worth the wait. I love his vibrant, fun-loving personality, his sense of humor, and his care and concern for his family and friends. The humorous banter between the characters was such a treat and gave a needed respite from the somewhat dark subject matter, which White handled beautifully.

“You know, most women wouldn’t appreciate being compared to a monkey.”

When Lord Yates Fairfax rescues the Imposters’ newest client, Lady Alethia Barremore, from attempted murderers, he finds himself involved in much more than a missing person’s case. As he involves the other Imposters, their friend, Lady Lavinia Hemming, stumbles upon the truth of their group and wants to be involved in the investigations. Unfortunately, Yates had spent years getting over his youthful love for Lavinia.

“Six years later, he’d learned to look at her without that punch to his gut.”

What a dilemma! Two beautiful ladies to protect, a missing nanny, and a mystery to solve. This tale is a fantastic conclusion to the series. It was such fun to see characters from some of the author’s previous series show up in this one.

With lots of humor, suspense, romance, and inspiration, this book has something for everyone. I wholeheartedly recommend this author and series to those who enjoy clean and wholesome historical romance fiction.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy from Bethany House Publishing. All opinions are my own.

To say I was excited to finally read Yates and Lavinia’s story is a great understatement, and this novel did not disappoint! I think this has been one of my favorite series by this author and every single book has been jam packed with danger, intrigue, suspense, secrets, history, and romance. The character development is so well written, it is like returning to a group of friends every time I open a new installment in the series. The action and suspense, which starts in chapter one, kept my attention and made me stay up way too late into the night to read more! I also love the research and detail the author puts into the descriptions of the setting, society, and the history. I feel like I learn so much about the time period! And certainly, well woven throughout, are marvelous spiritual themes that are poignant and applicable. I truly cannot say enough good things about this novel and most highly recommend it!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

An Honorable Deception is the final book in The Imposters trilogy by Roseanna M. White. While you can read the book as a standalone, I would highly recommend reading the entire series as the characters and events build throughout each book. There are many references to previous events.

The Imposters serve as private investigators for the elite of English society. Their identities remain a secret from all except a chosen few. In this final installment, Lord Yates, the leader of this small group, is determined to help their new client, Lady Alethia, find her missing nanny. When close friend and neighbor, Lady Lavinia, finds out what her friends are up to, she quickly joins the Imposters as she seeks to bring meaning to her life after a recent family betrayal. Not only are honor and justice on the line, but hearts are also hanging in the balance.

Now I’m not usually a fan of love triangles but White does a masterful job providing just enough uncertainty to keep you reading without dragging out Yates’ indecision between Alethia and Lavinia. I loved watching the relationships between the characters grow as the story progressed and was very happy with how it all played out in the end. Individually, each character faced personal challenges. Lady Alethia sought to move past the fear that had been so much a part of her life for so long, and Lady Lavinia learned to recognize her worth, not in her own actions or the perceptions of others, but in God alone.

What starts as a simple missing person case, quickly grows into something much darker than any of them could ever imagine. This book dealt with some heavy subjects – human trafficking and various forms of abuse – but White handled them with care and sensitivity. It was a unique look at the dark side of the aristocracy of the time. The somber subject is balanced with the lively crew of misfit characters and a household that includes a retired circus lion, an adorable monkey named Penelope, and the unexpected addition of a crew of young pickpockets. As the Imposters grow, their quest for justice leads them to a final, spectacular performance that, if successful, will save the lives of countless women and children.

I can’t stop without mentioning that you will see some familiar faces from White’s previous series, both Shadows Over England and Codebreakers. It’s like seeing old friends again and I absolutely loved it. I won’t tell you who shows up. You’ll just have to read and find out for yourself!

I highly recommend this entire series. The characters are well developed and the setting flows beautifully between the English countryside and the streets of London.

I received an ARC copy of this book from the author/publisher and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine.

Roseanna M. White has outdone herself with this stirring conclusion to The Imposters series! An Honorable Deception is indelibly etched in my heart. Yates’ story was all I ever hoped for & more. Set in the Edwardian Era, this inspirational romance/mystery takes on the dark underbelly of London’s elite combined with an achingly beautiful second chance romance. Full of mystery, intrigue, a heartfelt love story, & triumph over evil, this book was impossible to put down.

Lord Yates Fairfax has a carefully hidden secret identity. As Mr. A, he & the other Imposters investigate cases for the aristocracy. When the beautiful Lady Alethia Barremore seeks help in finding her missing former nanny, Yates risks exposing his identity to come to her aid when she’s shot inside the church where their meeting takes place. Whisking her away to his estate, Yates along with his sister Marigold & their old friend Lady Lavinia Hemming assist in nursing her back to health.

Yates inexplicably finds himself drawn to Alethia, the wounded soul who’s stumbled on to a terrible secret, but he can’t forget his old love Lavinia who rejected him several years ago. It took him years to get over her, and being near her threatens to unleash all the carefully buried feelings. As he struggles with feelings for both women, he risks his life to uncover the whereabouts of the missing nanny & unearths the terrible secrets of England’s most elite.

Ahh, this story definitely tugged on the heartstrings. The premise involves some difficult subjects including child abuse & trafficking, but the author brilliantly handles the horrors with delicacy & without any unnecessary details. She carefully balances the heavy with Yates’ good humor, charm & wit along with a lovely second chance romance. Lavinia certainly has her work cut out for her to convince Yates that she still loves him & find the strength to fight for what she wants. She’s up against some stiff competition though as Alethia is the irresistible damsel in distress.

The ending was so satisfying! I loved how they were able to expose the villains in such an unforgettable way. The inspirational messages left a deep impression as these characters struggle with self-worth & overcoming the past. I was also thrilled to see familiar characters from the author’s other series. I won’t say more because I don’t want to ruin the surprise, but I loved the tie-ins to this favorite series.

I’ve loved The Imposter series & am sad to see it come to an end. I’m hoping there might be more adventures in store for these characters. Highly recommend to inspirational historical fiction fans. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the author & publisher. All opinions are my own & voluntarily provided.

Another brilliant historical novel by Roseanna M. White! Though this author has never shied away from the difficult subjects, this one felt a bit heavier than usual, but was still offset by light-hearted characters and witty banter. This is the third book in The Imposters series and though the story would stand alone, I would recommend reading this series in order in order to better understand the character relationship dynamics. The Imposters are a set of elite investigators, well known among the wealthy members of English society. When Alethia Barremore comes to them to find her missing Ayah, Yates is uncertain whether they should take her case. But when Alethia is attacked immediately following their meeting, he knows they have to. When their old family friend, Lavinia Hemming gets involved in the case as well, it complicates the matters of Yates’s heart.

Since the beginning of this series, I have been impatiently waiting for Yates’s story as he’s been my favorite side character in the other 2 books and I’ve been anxiously awaiting his happily ever after. And I was not disappointed! Though this story showed the lowest dregs of a sinful human heart and therefore felt heavier than the author’s other works, she used the heavy subject matter with the most light-hearted of her characters, so that helped with the heaviness. And as Lavinia says, “sheltering us from the world doesn’t spare our eyes from seeing the evil – it spares evil from the light that would reveal it…. it’s only when we tear down those walls and look at the truth straight on that we can hope to change things”. It’s important to talk about the ugliness of sin so that the light of Grace can shine through more brightly. And that was what this story did. In addition to the main mystery of figuring out what happened to Alethia’s nanny, there was a deeper darker secret needing to be uncovered. At the same time, Yates finds himself drawn to 2 different women and The Imposters team grows more members. The romance in this one felt more like a sub-plot, which suited me just fine. Probably because there were 2 leading ladies, it added some extra oomph to the plot, but kept the actual romance from moving along too quickly. As I learned more about each of the ladies, I found myself rooting for whichever one whose chapter I was reading as the both needed a little Yates in their life. In the end, I was thrilled with the outcome and both women (and Yates) got a happy ending. The other thing I loved about this book was a cross-over in some characters from the author’s other books, and it made me so happy to see some “old friends” again. All in all, though this was hard to read in some parts, it was a necessary message and a beautiful story with the best of conclusions. With a solid faith thread, a masterful plot, and a couple of great romances, this is one I would definitely recommend to fans of historical fiction. Special thanks to the author and publisher for an advance copy of this novel. I was under no obligation to provide a review and the thoughts contained herein are my own.
